This Saturday (April 6th, 2013) at 9:30pm Mountain Time, Scriptive launches Version 1.0 on the web at www.scriptive.org. We’re having a small launch event in Denver, CO to celebrate this milestone and deploy the web application for public access. Here’s a behind the scenes look at our development team hard at work:

God has an incredible heart for provision. Sometimes He provides a friend to support us in difficult times. Sometimes He provides a difficult time to keep our hearts close to Him. And sometimes, like what’s happened in the past few days, He provides financial means to accomplish His will.

I’m pleased to announce that we’ve reached our $105,000 goal for Scriptive Version 1.0!!!!!! A HUGE THANK YOU to the many people who donated to Scriptive… small and large donations combined to fund this innovative website. Using these generous donations, we’ll be able to complete Scriptive Version 1.0 development, thus connecting people’s personal lives with highly impactful Scripture. It’s GO TIME!

Next steps:

• Developing, Coding, Developing, Testing, Developing
• Planning the launch of Scriptive.org to the public
• Building more partner relationships with ministries, churches, and other organizations
• Continuing relationships with donors who want to support Scriptive’s operating expenses (If Scriptive gets millions and millions of users, we’ll need a staff and hosting services to manage the ministry impact… We can’t wait!!)
• Now that Scriptive’s technology (centered on the web via Scriptive.org) is funded, we’ll prayerfully consider how to bring the technology to anyone’s website or device via the Scriptive API, Scriptive iPhone and Android Apps, and text messaging platforms.

Scriptive Founder Charles Roach was invited to give the staff devotional at the National Christian Foundation (NCF) on March 11th, 2013. Charles will speak to the entire staff at the NCF Headquarters in Atlanta, GA, telling his story, showing how God orchestrated the beginnings of Scriptive, and desiring to encourage the staff with Scripture and faith building stories.

The National Christian Foundation is the largest Christian grant-making foundation in the world. Their innovative, tax-smart solutions help you simplify your giving, multiply your impact, and glorify God. Since 1982, they have received over $5 billion in contributions and made over $3.5 billion in grants to thousands of churches, ministries, and non-profits.

One of our good friends and supporters, Bob Heykoop, introduced us to Denver Seminary President, Dr. Mark Young. Charles was blessed to be introduced to multiple staff members and enjoy a luncheon at the Seminary as well. After the meeting, Dr. Young agreed to promote Scriptive both internally and externally, providing this resource for future pastors and counselors to drive Scripture engagement within their spheres of influence. What’s a “Hack Session” you might ask? It’s when web developers wire-in and focus 150% of their brainpower and time towards a certain goal, or iteration, to be completed at the end of the session. Scriptive had a goal: to create a life events and circumstance data model to better recommend accurate and context-driven Scripture to its future users. This data model was needed before we can launch Version 1.0, our general public release.

Did we finish the goal? No.

BUT, we got a great strategy towards finishing it… stay tuned for Hack Session #3.

I get to meet the coolest people! Today, I drove to Denver and had lunch with Bob Heykoop after an introduction from Chris Chancey (Denver Seminary Student Council President). Bob volunteers his time and greatly supports the students at Denver Seminary. He works in investments and insurance around the Denver area and has a huge heart for Jesus and the Church. Bob endorsed Scriptive and is planning on introducing me to a few people around the area, including an invitation to the Denver Seminary end of year luncheon in the next couple days. Stay tuned!

The day didn’t end there… I also got to have a followup meeting with Nathan Hoag, Mark Haug (no relation), and Sara Damour at Cherry Hills Community Church in southern Denver. The meeting went really well, not only validating the need for Scriptive within the needs of a church, but also creating a relationship to help Scriptive test the web app and technology amongst middle and high school, college, and single adult Christian students. I’m honored to have CHCC on board and can’t wait to begin feedback!

We are pleased to announce that Blair Cunningham, Partner at Signature FD, has joined the Board of Advisors at Scriptive. We’re excited for Blair to join the team and look forward to spending more time with him! He is truly a generous, kind, wise, and selfless man and we are truly blessed to learn from him. Thanks for your heart, Blair!

Charles Roach first met Blair at The Varsity in Atlanta, GA for lunch on July 30th, after an introduction from The Westminster Schools Chaplain, Woodrow Barnes. The Lord put Scriptive on Blair’s heart after this meeting and as time progressed, opportunities to help became way too convenient for God not to have ordained his involvement. For example, before meeting Blair, Charles conferenced with an employee at Focus on the Family named Ryan Griffin. Ryan lived in Colorado Springs and worked for Focus at their headquarters there. When Charles visited Colorado Springs, he found out that not only was Ryan and his wife good friends with Charles’ future roommates, but were great friends with Blair as well. #SovereigntyOfGod

Scriptive Prayer Meeting: Prayer for Scriptive.org direction, funding, development, and future users.

Introduction at 7pm
Prayer from 7:15 – 8:15pm

Progress Introduction: We’ve received a match of $40,000 from an international Christian organization in CO Springs! Already, we’ve been given $5000 towards this goal. $35,000 left to raise.
Prayer for Direction:
- God’s will in our strategy
- That God would fill us up while our team is working on Scriptive
- That we would keep Scripture engagement the forefront of our focus

Prayer for Funding:
- That generous people would contribute $35,000 before the end of this year so that our match can be fully realized
- That we would use the money wisely and with intention
- That we would have the right words to say when telling the story and vision of Scriptive to potential donors
- That we would have strength, boldness, and humility when asking for money

Prayer for Development:
- General prayers for our web engineers and designer
- Development time would result in quality work
- That Scriptive would work well and be effective
- That we would focus on what matters

Prayer for Future Users:
- That they would be encouraged by relevant and accurate verse and resource recommendations
- That their spirits would be filled up after interacting with Scriptive
- That many would be encouraged by Scriptive
- That many people who don’t know much about God would meet him for the first time and be drawn into His presence through Scriptive

We’ve done it! Just a moment ago, we released Version 0.8 of Scriptive (our ‘Alpha’ website). You can view it here: http://alpha.scriptive.org* It’s released on an invite-only basis because there’s still some work left to do before we can release it to the general public.

After weeks and weeks of work, Spencer, Charles, and Frank spent 6 hours straight today on a Google Hangout and deployed the code to our production server for the first time in Scriptive’s history. We hope you enjoy the Alpha Site!

*Btw, we don’t have many verses and life events on the alpha site yet, so the recommendations aren’t going to be very accurate at this time.
